St Peter’s Church is the Anglican parish church at the heart of Woodhall Spa, set among mature trees on The Broadway. It belongs to a group of rural Church of England parishes in central Lincolnshire that share ministry, worship and social events, while each retaining its own character. The congregation is known for its music and robed choir, with regular Eucharistic services, choral morning prayer and a warm emphasis on welcome, prayer and community.
Consecrated in 1893 and designed by noted Victorian church architect Charles Hodgson Fowler, St Peter’s was built to replace the smaller St Andrew’s and became the parish church in 1915. Inside, visitors find a high, vaulted nave with timber panelling, finely carved pews and an impressive oak rood screen and reredos. The rich East window shows Christ surrounded by prophets, apostles and martyrs, while other stained-glass windows and memorials honour local people and RAF connections, including links with the famous Dambusters and 619 Squadron. The church is usually open daily for quiet prayer and sightseeing, and hosts weekday groups, children’s activities and community events alongside Sunday worship.
